Red Hat and Jaspersoft Extend the Reach of Open Source for Fat Spaniel Technologies

Red Hat Enterprise Linux, JBoss Enterprise Middleware and Jaspersoft Business Intelligence Suite combine to provide Fat Spaniel with an open source business intelligence platform

노스캐롤라이나주 롤리 -

Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that its Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JBoss Enterprise Middleware technologies, combined with the Jaspersoft Business Intelligence Suite, are working with Fat Spaniel Technologies in an effort to quickly introduce new functionality to market, scale with business growth and enable the measurement and reporting of the return on investment (ROI) of renewable energy.

Founded in 2003, Fat Spaniel Technologies is a provider of lifecycle management services for renewable energy systems. Today, the company's solutions are utilized by the stakeholders in more than 4,000 renewable power plants in 28 countries around the world, including solar power producers, financiers, system integrators, OEMs and a growing number of wind power companies. Fat Spaniel's solutions help to optimize energy output, reduce operations and maintenance costs, contain risk and increase return on investment for renewable energy power plant projects.

In 2009, Fat Spaniel introduced a sophisticated business intelligence (BI) tool as part of its portfolio of monitoring and management solutions. Committed to open source technologies, Fat Spaniel long ago standardized its IT infrastructure on Red Hat Enterprise Linux running on industry-standard Intel processor-based Dell hardware. Its web services are also built on JBoss Enterprise Middleware. In looking for a solution for its new BI tool, Fat Spaniel again turned to open source solutions.

"Fat Spaniel is a proponent of open source and standards," said Brett Francis, vice president of engineering and software architecture at Fat Spaniel. "We wanted to work with someone who could create a more seamless business intelligence tool that would further enhance the information we deliver to our customers."

In addition to the open source requirement, the new BI solution needed to be capable of harnessing critical data intelligence, be Web-centric and optimized with leading-edge capabilities and a modern user interface from a company committed to innovation. After performing an exhaustive survey of open source BI solutions on the market, Fat Spaniel chose Jaspersoft's Business Intelligence Suite as an integral component of its reporting and monitoring services.

Jaspersoft's open source solutions support one of the world's largest business intelligence communities with over 10 million product downloads and more than 120,000 registered community members worldwide. Its core business intelligence software provides production, operational and embedded reporting and analysis; interactive end-user query; dashboards and mash-ups; and data analysis and integration. Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JBoss Enterprise Application Platform provide foundational technologies for Jaspersoft's Business Intelligence Suite, so Jaspersoft turned to these Red Hat technologies when recommending a choice for Fat Spaniel.

"Fat Spaniel's software-as-a-service platform, which leverages Jaspersoft and Red Hat, provides the critical data infrastructure to our customers in the renewable energy industries. With these technologies, we aim to provide the intelligence to power the next generation of the power grid," said Francis. "The quality of support that comes with the Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JBoss Enterprise Middleware subscription is excellent. With Red Hat's enterprise subscription, we feel that we will be supported at the level needed for our most mission-critical applications."

Fat Spaniel's Solar Plant Vision™ provides a comprehensive, accurate web view of solar energy system performance. The information is used by system installers to schedule service visits and optimize the installation for peak performance, and by owners to track and display solar energy generation and usage. Fat Spaniel's revenue-grade reporting capabilities also deliver reporting capabilities required to take advantage of performance-based incentives and emerging carbon and renewable energy credit (REC) markets.
